ZIMMERMAN EARNS LIFE LONG DEAL

VETERAN INKS FOR ANOTHER YEAR.

Pictured: A Jet ever since.  Garrett Zimmerman signs his first Jets deal in 2005 with former GM Dean Molberg. (c)2005 Jets Images

RED DEER, AB - There are whispers of Garrett Zimmerman and MVJ in the same sentence following a terrific season on and off ice and now his newest title enters the mix;

DAD.

Zimmerman is a new father after his wife Kim gave birth to their first child; a boy; Tuesday.

"It's amazing!"  said Zimmerman.  "So great!"

7lb 7oz Lucas Zimmerman was born June 30 in the afternoon and shortly afterwards, the veteran Jet signed with his team.

"Joe (Whitbread) and I spoke shortly after my son was born and he made an offer."  Says Zimmerman.  "I told him 'yah, I'll sign on his birthday!'"  he added.

The Zimmerman signing makes him the only deal of the summer thus far.  And more importantly, as the July 1st Free Agency deadline approached and passed, Zimmerman was the only name on paper for GM Whitbread.

Whitbread has his work cut out for him with plenty of veterans and sophomores still on the outside looking in.

"I have been working with a few of our unsigned players on and off this summer but unfortunately, it hasn't gone completely according to plan.  Its harder and harder each year and I've run into some hurdles."

"I have been in talks with Tyler (Labrecque) and unfortunately, our sides are at a complete impass right now.

Labrecque, a three year Jet, has allegedly demanded a four year deal, to play as a forward and will only line up next to a choice few forwards - his choice.

"I don't know if he's joking or just an a**." Whitbread shot back.  "No one can be that demanding can they?"

Whitbread also took a moment to apologize for his apparent dissapearance from the Jets since the end of June.

"Its been a tough spring and summer for me, that's all I'll say.  I've been working on plenty of things with and without the Jets in mind and simply needed a break.  I'm sorry."

Whitbread did emcee the Special Olympics breakfast on June 10th and was part of the official cheque presentation with Jablonski and Walker at the affair.

Jespo Signs Lifetime Deal

Just because he's a husband now, don't expect Jets energy winger Ryan Jespersen to stop mixing it up on the ice.
"If anything, I'm going to be sticking up for myself even more from now on," joked Jespersen after he and new wife Kari returned from their Costa Rica destination wedding.
The original Jet flew the franchise flag, posing for a photo on Playa Potrero wearing his familiar #20 alongside his bride.
"Being a Jet is kind of like being a husband," said Jespersen in a rare moment of clarity. "There's the commitment, the preparation...all those things. But most importantly, there's gotta be the love. And I've got a lot of love to give."
Jespersen denied reports a contract extension has already been agreed upon in principle with at least one member of Jets management.
"Believe it or not, my Jets contract has been the second-biggest priority this past month," said Jespersen. "Now that our wedding's in the history books, I'm ready to focus on moving forward with an extension."

GOING OUT IN STYLE!
-Whitbread leads the way with point 200 in an 11-4 victory
(Blackfalds, AB)

Pictured: Captain Joe Whitbread earned his 200th point and a fourth straight scoring title Sunday.

There was a brief moment where it looked like a milestone this season wasn't in the cards for Red Deer Jets captain Joe Whitbread.  A late-season mini slump had delayed the chase for 200 career points, and entering the teams final game of the season Sunday night, Whitbread remained stuck on 199.

However, when the final buzzer sounded, the milestone was reached...in convincing fashion.

Whitbread led the way with two goals and two assists, notching the historic point with a second assist on linemate Andrew Walker's goal, as the Jets capped off their season with an 11-4 road victory over the Crude Dudes.

"It was on my mind for sure" said Joe afterwards.  "Team success is nice and everything, but really, we're here for points....thats why we play the game".

Whitbread wraps up year four with 203 career points, capturing his fourth straight scoring title.

After a scoreless first 12 minutes, Tyler Labrecque put the Jets out in front, stuffing in his 7th of the year.

After Walker made it 2-0, the Dudes would battle back....but a Tyler Kondratoff goal before the half would retain a 3-2 lead.  Kondratoff finished off a pretty 2 on 1 with Keegan Mclevin, and wrapped up a solid AP Jets season with seven points in four games

The Dudes came out fired up in the second half, and for the first few minutes, carried nearly all the momentum.  The tide began to turn though, as G Scott Malo made perhaps the save of the season, snatching a sure goal away with a quick glove hand.  The save seemed to propel the Jets, who got quick goals from Labrecque, his second of the night, and Owen Giles, who was able to tap home a gimme from the side of the net.

From there, the floodgates opened, Whitbread put home his 22nd and 23rd of the year, Chad Cargill added his 17th and 18th, while Mclevin would snipe home his 12th for an 11-4 final.

So with that, the Jets season comes to an end.  A trying year at time, but a much-needed step in the rebuilding process.  Next up:  Jets Awards night!  Date TBA

LABBATT BLUE THREE STARS

1) JAMIE RANKIN
- MVJ candidate notched a career high FIVE assists, and logged a ton of ice time

2) JOE WHITBREAD - Two goals, two assists, and career point number 200

3) TYLER LABRECQUE - two goals, one helper, brought beer. Not likely to be resigned.

HART HAD - Awarded by Labrecque to Keegan Mclevin.  Another solid , two way effort, three points, owned the dot.

PURE CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS
Jets veteran Andrew Walker notched his 9th goal of the season, falling one short of WHL'er Matt Fraser, and failing to win the team a round of beer.  Scratches on the night were Jespersen (now married - congrats!) Jablonski, Waldo, Fleck, Zimmerman, and Gill. Cargill picked up four points even while fighting a high ankle sprain, wrapping up what was a tough season injury wise.  AP Josh Crabb played his 26th game of the season, second only to Walker.  Please get your award votes in to Jets management ASAP.  Team brass is expected to announce a new Jets award sometime this week, one new ballot will be sent out shortly.  Have a good offseason everyone!  Contract talks will be picking up shortly with (some) of the teams UFA's.  Free agents of note include:  Labrecque, Gill, Giles, Crabb, and Waldo.

FINAL GAME SUNDAY DUDES

JETS RUBBER STAMP '09 SEASON IN BLACKFALDS

Pictured: GM Joe Whitbread looks for career point number 200 Sunday in pursuit of his fourth straight scoring title.

RED DEER, AB - The Red Deer Jets will finish their fourth season Sunday when they take on the Crude Dudes in Blackfalds at 7:30.  Playing without veteran, Nathan Fleck who played in his final game with a tearful goodbye two weeks ago and Garrett Zimmerman who is currently in Mexico with his wife and unborn child, the Jets will look to end on a high note.

"Its been a rougher year than others but we can only worry about our next game." says GM Joe Whitbread who is only one point away from career 200.  "We have had some good things happen this year and others, not so good.  We still have a job to do though."

Players are asked to note that the Jets game has been officially changed to Sunday, March 29th at 7:30pm in Blackfalds.

The Jets did a small workout Tuesday as a team...well...not so much as a team but individually.  Well... it wasn't so much a workout as just "work" and they weren't really together as a team but more spread out...all over the city...at their respective jobs...so...yah...well anyway, not so much a "team workout" I guess but they say they'll be ready.

The March 29th game marks the first time the Jets will play into Spring as their latest calendar booking in franchise history.

2009 Jets Awards ballots were handed out via e-mail Tuesday as the Jets look ahead to hand out Labrecque hardware later this summer...or next fall...or at Christmas sometime next year...when they can find a new social coordinator to take over for Fleck.  Anyway, ballots include five catagories including MVJ, Best defenseman, Rookie of the year, The Molberg award for the player who bleeds Jet fuel and the all new Community Award for the Jet who offer the most support either through financial, philanthropic or other commitment.

ONE LAST FLICKER FOR FLECK
-Veteran plays final game of storied career in 10-4 loss

RED DEER, AB
Nathan Fleck will be the first to tell you..it wasn’t the way he wanted to go out.  The much-respected number 10 wrapped up a brilliant four-year career with the team Wednesday night in a 10-4 loss to the rival Pylons at the Enmax Centrium, his final game as a “contract” player.

It’s safe to say though, years from now, noone will remember the score…but Fleck’s standout tenure as a Jet will live on forever.

“I know it was quickly shot down for some reason by GM Whitbread in the room……” commented AGM Andrew Walker… “But I maintain…no other Jet should wear number ten ever again..this guy was a leader, an assistant captain, and one of the best Jets in history.  We’ll miss him”

Playing with a full three lines and five D on the annual team photo night, The team came out hard and fast against the Pylons, clearly motivated after losing their last meeting to the Jets 5-2.

Merrick Sutter, a former Jet, made his season debut for the Blue and White, and had an questionable first shift, deflecting a loose puck into his own goal with the help of a Pylons stick.

Down 1-0, The Jets would quickly tie it up when Jeremy Jablonski’s shot would deflect off of Owen Giles and in.  Jamie Rankin, back on the Jets blueline, would draw the other assist.  Down 3-1, Tyler Labrecque would make it a one-goal game, converting a rebound of a Chad Cargill shot in the slot.  Goaltender Scott Malo was able to pick up an assist on the play after starting the breakout with his blocker.  Video officials ruled that the puck, in fact, did NOT deflect off the skate of dman Andrew Walker enroute.

The Pylons would go on a late surge in the first half, and the Jets would head to the room down 6-2.

Down 7-2, Jets fans got a glimpse of a possible comeback, as Garrett Zimmerman converted a Whitbread feed to cut the deficit to 7-3, before Labrecque finished off a pretty give and go with Sutter to make it 7-4.  The assist for Whitbread leaves him at 199 career points.

Unfortunately, that was it for the Jets, who gave up the final four goals of the night for an 11-4 final.  It was emotional scene post-game, as Fleck, who was awarded the Sportsnet Towel from Malo, received a standing ovation to go along with numerous hugs.  The Jets wrap up their season with a late-season game, March 29th in Blackfalds.  Management is looking into picking up one more game in between, so stay tuned.

LABBATT BLUE THREE STARS  (As chosen by Deuce Murdock)

1) Nathan Fleck – Wraps up Jets career with an assist and the sportsnet towel.

2) Jamie Rankin – MVJ candidate puts in another good day at the office

3)  Andrew Walker – Solid on the blueline

HARD HAT – Tyler Labrecque:  He’s only played two games since Christmas, but has had multiple point efforts in both,  Two goals and solid defense Wednesday night.

PURE CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS
Fleck had a bit of a postgame sendoff at BP’s after the game, with Labrecque, Walker, Crabb, Zimmerman, Jablonski, Jespersen, Rankin, Whitbread, and Sutter all in attendance.  F Ryan Jespersen also played his final game of the season, as he leaves for Costa Rica in a week to exchange wedding vows with celebrity radio personality Kari Skelton.  Jared Waldo was the only scratch on the night.  Management will be reviewing his contract, as he only played 13 games this season and kept the hard hat out of the room for a record five games.  Award ballots will be available at the Jets final game in Blackfalds.

JETS HIT FRONT PAGE

WARDO'S TEAM FEATURED IN ADVOCATE AGAIN

RED DEER, AB - The Red Deer Jets hit the front page again Tuesday but this time, its a real story!

Red Deer's favorite Rec Hockey team welcomes new viewers today after a recent article in the Red Deer Advocate hilighted the efforts of the team mates who play the game for a cause.

Courtesy reddeeradvocate.com, reporter Cameron Kennedy offers this published synopsis of his two days behind the scenes with the Jets:

For the cause: Red Deer Jets and team owner Cam Ward have a special reason to play

by CAMERON KENNEDY/Life editor, mask inset submitted

Real. Fake. Hockey.

The Red Deer Jets’s motto sums up just how far players have been willing to go to create a mythology around their rec hockey team.

They hire fictitious agents, sign fake contracts, attend “training camp” and wear uniforms mimicking those of the Winnipeg Jets of old, all to realize their childhood dreams of suiting up for a pro franchise.

Family and friends keep tabs on their hockey heroes at www.reddeerjets.com, the home Jets TV. The team has also posted videos on YouTube and Facebook.

And the Jets’s owner is none other than Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes.

But beneath the glitz and high production values is tight-knit group of friends who raise money for the Red Deer chapter of Special Olympics Alberta.

“We’ve got a handful of veterans who have been here since Day 1, and we bring in guys who believe in the cause, not just they’re hockey ability,” says Joe Whitbread, Jets general manager and the team’s leading scorer.

“In fact, we’ve had great hockey players come into this room who just don’t fit the mould of what it means to be a Jet,” he continues. “And so we’ve actually cut some very good hockey players from this team.”

The same standards apply to the Jets’ opponents, who make a donation to face off against on home ice, the Centrium. Sponsors also chip in to assist with fundraising.

“We won’t play anyone who needs to brawl or anyone who needs to light up the scoreboard or try and shut us out,” says Whitbread. “We play for a cause and we expect our opponents to respect that.”

The Red Deer Jets were founded in 2005 by Dean Molberg, a local TV and radio personality. A Manitoba native, “Boomer” conceived of the media team as a tribute to his beloved NHL franchise, which relocated to Phoenix in 1996.

“We have some guys on the team now who bleed the red, white, and blue of the Winnipeg Jets of old,” says Whitbread, who took over as GM when Molberg’s career took him to Calgary a year later.

Andrew Walker, 24, has been a member of the Jets since Day 1, playing in all but three of its 95 games to date.

Then new to Red Deer, the defenceman thought the Jets was a cool look for a rec hockey team. A little dumb luck and some good press later, and the team has taken on a life of its own, he says.

“If you play rec hockey in Red Deer on any team on any night of the week, you know who the Jets are, which is kind of cool,” says Walker.

Ward became involved with the Jets organization in the summer of 2006, two weeks after lifting the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe Trophy with the Carolina Hurricanes.

As Whitbread tells it, he jokingly offered to sell the Jets to his good friend for a $1 during a poker game. Much to his amazement and delight, Ward accepted.

Since buying the team, Ward has embraced his role as Jets owner, donating $20 to the Red Deer chapter of Special Olympics Alberta for each goal his team scores.

He supports North Carolina Special Olympians through his Cam’s Champs program in Raleigh, N.C.

The Jets failure to put the puck in the net this season prompted Ward to scold his team’s commitment in a letter posted on the team’s website.

“There are millions of people itching for the chance to be a Jet,” wrote Ward, tongue-in-cheek. “These players shouldn’t feel safe. I’m tempted to pull a trade to receive a bucket of pucks in return if things don’t start to change.”

Walker says the Jets used to win about 90 per cent of the their games. Now teams stack their lineup because they don’t want to read about their loss on the Jets’ website the next day.

The Jets have lost some pretty lopsided games this season, falling to a record of 11-17-0. That includes an 11-0 thrashing at the hands of 53rd Street Music in October and a 9-0 defeat Breakaway Hot Shot in January.

“That’s been a little frustrating because at the end (of the night) when you’re sitting around having a beer, you realize that you didn’t raise any money for Special Olympics (Alberta) because we got shut out,” says Walker.

“There is a little bit of pressure to score but we’re pretty confident in our abilities.”

On a kinder, gentler note, Ward paid the ultimate tribute to his team by stenciling “Red Deer Jets” on the back of his 2008-09 goalie mask.

Whitbread says there is no bigger hockey hero than Ward.

“It goes without saying but there are a lot of things you can put on the back of (a hockey) mask if you’re in the NHL,” he says. “To put (the name of) your rec hockey team that you bought for a buck, that’s pretty special.”

Whitbread says he expects the fundraising to surpass the $10,000-mark by the time the final whistle blows this season.

His personal goals for the team include having Ward strap on the pads for the Jets, taking the team on the road to a recreational hockey tournament, preferably in Raleigh, N.C., and being featured on Hockey Day in Canada.

Walker, for one, believes the team is still a work-in-progress.

He’s looking forward to seeing where the team goes in the years to come.

“Win or lose, nice uniforms or not, it’s just really fun to spend time with friends,” he says

JETS FEELING BLUE
-Play Better, but still lose 11-4 to Blue Ice

Even the Jets debut of Scott Doucet couldn't put the Red Deer Jets over the top on Sunday night at the Enmax Centrium.  Playing for the second time this season against a powerhouse Blue Ice squad, the Jets showed promise, but still fell 11-4, finishing the season series at 0-2.

Doucet  (pictured below) , playing on a line with Ryan Jespersen and Nathan Fleck, scored his first and added two assists.  Also scoring were Fleck, his 12th of the season, and Warren Gill, who notched a pair, leaving him with four on the year.

"Finally!" said Giller as he celebrated his first.."It's been a long time coming, but I finally feel like I'm back up to speed"

Gill has missed most of the past year and a half with numerous injuries, but has now potted three goals in the past three games.

The Jets missed four penalty shots in the game, including Doucet, who went 0 for 2, hitting the post on his second.  Keegan Mclevin and Owen Giles were also denied by goaltender Danny White, who was previously used as a fill-in netminder earlier this season by the Jets.

Andrew Walker notched three assists playing on the blueline, putting him at 22 on the season, in a four-way tie for the team lead.  (Zimmerman, Whitbread, Cargill)

Jets goaltender Scott Malo was solid, but clearly left out to dry in the second half, where Blue Ice was able to pour it on with seven goals.

The Jets will return to action Wednesday night against the Pylons, and while it is only speculation at this point, it could end up being their final game against their long time rivals

ever.

LABBATT BLUE THREE STARS

1) Warren Gill - two goals for Giller, and the hard hat to boot, converted a Scott Doucet feed for his first, and one touched a loose puck in the slot for his second.

2) Scott Doucet- A threat all night in his Jets debut.  A goal to go along with two assists.  However, alienated teammates by batting away the puck after it was handed to him after his first career goal.

3) Scott Malo - Awarded the Sportsnet towel by brother in law Malo after a "many" save performance.  Held the Blue Ice to four goals in the first half.

PURE CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS
-The Jets lost the opener of the season series 12-1, and were much happier with the effort the second time around.  Scratches on the night were F Jeremy Jablonski, F Chad Cargill, F Garrett Zimmerman, D Jamie Rankin, and D Jared Waldo.  D C.J. Senkow was also absent, and management confirmed rumors afterwards that Senkow has INDEED been released from the team.  Cargill was in Toronto over the weekend, and was seen on HNIC celebrating a Fernando Pisani goal during the Oilers - Leafs game.  He was clearly hammered.  Jets standout rookie D josh Crabb, still signed on an AP basis, has obtained representation under the BOOMDOG Ent. Umbrella, and is rumored to be seeking a two-year deal.  BOOMDOG also represents Malo, Cargill, and Walker.  Malo's daughter Sadie was able to watch her first official Jets game, along with Mom Sarah, Aunt Julia,  and cousin Morgan, son of F Nathan Fleck.

THE DOUCE IS LOOSE!
-Former Rebels Captain to Make Jets Debut Sunday

He's played for the Prince Albert Raiders, the Red Deer Rebels, and the Regina Pats...and now, Scott Doucet will suit up for the most heralded team of all.....the Red Deer Jets.

Doucet, who hung up his WHL skates this season, has since moved back to Red Deer, and has been signed to a one-game contract by Jets AGM Andrew Walker.

"While Scott was here playing for the Rebels, he always paid close attention to Jets happenings, as a lot of the boys have"  said Walker.  "When I saw Scott the other day, he jumped at the opportunity to make his debut!"

Doucet  (pictured below playing AGAINST the Rebels while with the Pats) scored a career high 17 goals last season, and was on pace to surpass that this year, but left the Pats after not being granted a trade request to the Jets.

"I wanted to finish my career with Walker, Crabb, Cargill, and the boys....but we couldn't come to an agreement in time"

JETS LOSING PAIR OF 'D'?

- Rumors swirling around Jets defencemen

(pictured: Jets [former?] defenceman Jared Waldo and CJ Senkow)

RED DEER, AB - The end of the season may come to an end sooner, rather than later, for two Red Deer Jets defencemen.

Defence partners CJ Senkow and Jared Waldo have been absent from the Jets roster for quite some time, and early reports are that both defencemen may be breaching contract by not appearing for the team in recent games.

Senkow has spent many, many hours in the rinks lately...but unfortunately for Jets' brass, it's not in a red, white and blue uniform.

"I have NO idea where CJ's been lately," commented Jets assistant GM Andrew Walker. "I don't think he gets what it means to be a Jet. It's an HONOR and a PRIVELEGE...not a free ticket to miss games without telling anyone.

Senkow has been busy with his career has a hockey official, and after a recent excursion (read: VacatioN) to Las Vegas, Senkow has returned, and has barely been home, sleeping in Zamboni rooms across the country. When contacted for this story, Senkow just shrugged.

"I'm busy. My family and officiating have to take priority." When asked about his playing career with the team, Senkow looked frustrated. "If I'm not there, I'm not there. Sorry."

Senkow's disappearing act has been going on for some time now...but now his partner seems to be following suit.

Sophmore defenceman Jared Waldo has been absent for most Jets game in 2009, and team officials are wondering why.

"I have NO idea," vented Jets GM Joe Whitbread. "This isn't the commitment I expected from Waldo when we signed that contract last July. Not only has he disappointed with his commitment on the ice...but I question his dedication. He showed up in camp out of shape, and his play has been reflective of that. And Jets Radio? An anomoly. He's been let go with his role within Jets Entertainment."

Whitbread is now taking resumes for anyone interested in helping to promote Jets Entertainment, in any fashion.

Rumors have been swirling for awhile now about Waldo, and the story is about to take another twist, as this reporter found out. There's a report deep within the Jets organization that Waldo has been 'released' from his contract, and is now a free agent. A-G-M Walker refutes that report though.

"As long as he's got the Jets hard hat, he's still a part of the team. But four games without returning it? Come on. That's not cool. That's downright Klass-less."

A frustrated Walker rolled his eyes as he left the media scrum.

"Fines. FINES everywhere" Walker yelled as he walked away.

Truth be told, Waldo has not honored his contract and rumors are that he, along with partner Senkow, are fully looking into their options for 2009-2010. With reports that Jets forward and veteran Nathan Fleck on the way out (re-assignment, NOT a trade) and speculation about Senkow and Waldo not returning, the Red Deer Jets could have a much different look next season.

Waldo could not be reached for comment.

SECOND-HALF JET FUEL!
-Club lives up to reputation in 4-3 comeback victory

If you're looking for a prime example of why the Red Deer Jets will miss soon-to-be free agent Nathan Fleck next season, look no further than Wednesday night.

Fleck kick-started an inspired Jets comeback, scoring back to back goals in the second half to lead the way in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Cafe Tiffany's Capitalizers at the Enmax Centrium.

Down 2-0 at the half, the Jets struggled to generate many shots, and when the Caps made it 3-0 a minute into the third, any hopes of a comeback looked bleak.

However, goaltender Scott Malo, playing one of his finest games of the season, made save after save until the Jets offense finally found it's stride.

Fleck got things started, ripping a hard riser from the slot upstairs, with helpers from Crabb and Labrecque, to make it 3-1.

Labrecque, playing in his first game since late December, showed very little rust, and was one of the best players on the ice for either team.

"One forgets just how much we've missed Tyler this season" commented F Garrett Zimmerman, one of a number of Jets to get involved in numerous post-whistle scrums. "He's such a solid player, and he didn't miss a beat tonight".

Minutes later, Fleck would strike again, taking advantage of a wandering Caps netminder, and scoring on a sneaky wraparound. All of a sudden it was 3-2, and the Jets started to carry the play. With about nine minutes to go, Labrecque drew the Jets even, walking to the middle before ripping an absolute laser under the bar (assists going to Gill and Walker). At this point, the snipe could be called one of the biggest goals of the season.

Labrecque completed the Gordie Howe Hat Trick with about two minutes to go, dropping the mitts with an agitated Caps forward behind goaltender Scott Malo. Malo was again key down the stretch, and would help send the game in to the shootout, the third for the Jets this season.

After the first four shooters (Including Zimmerman and Fleck) were all turned aside, Andrew Walker would put the Jets out in front, cutting in wide on the forehand, before firing a snap shot upstairs. Needing a goal to stay alive, Caps Captain Darin Doel would respond to send the game to extra shooters. Keegan Mclevin would put the Jets back out in front, scoring on a forehand deke, before Malo would seal the win with another big save, celebrating with a fist pump.

It was a rare show of emotion from the Jets veteran netminder, who clearly recognized just how gritty this effort was. The Jets finish the season series with the Caps at 2-2, and will take on the Blue Ice this comign Sunday - 5 p.m. (Enmax Centrium)

(Pictured:  Malo and Labrecque at 08/09 Jets camp:  Two star performers last night)

LABBATT BLUE THREE STARS

1)  Nathan Fleck - Two goals, when offense was at a premium.  Singlehandedly got his team back into the game.

2) Scott Malo - A 40-plus save performance, including a pair of penalty shots.  Stopped three of four in the shootout as well.  Incredible job.

3) Tyler Labrecque - Showed the team what they've been missing since Christmas.  An assist, a beautiful clutch goal, and stepped up to the plate in a fight defending his goaltender.

PURE CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS
Jets F Jeremy Jablonski had 100 dollars wagered on the game, and as such, many Jets were disappointed to see a number of call-ups on the other side, including the hated Mike Klass of the Pylons.  However, Klass set a personal best with zero checking from behind majors.  Labrecque  hopes to play his second consecutive game this Sunday against the Blue Ice, who handed the Jets a 12-1 loss in the season's first meeting.  D Andrew Walker is listed as day-to-day after re-aggravating a shoulder injury suffered last week vs Schlumberger.  Scratches on the night were Whitbread, Cargill, Jespersen, Rankin, and Waldo.  Waldo has come under critcism for failing to get the Hard Hat to a Jets game for a recod fourth consecutive game.  C.J. Senkow meanwhile, missed his 6th consecutive game, and is rumored to have left the team.

MOTIVATION COMES IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS
-WHL'ER MATT FRASER ISSUES CHALLENGE

Mired in yet another losing skid, the Red Deer Jets are in need of a few wins, and more than anything, some sort of spark.  A 9-3 loss to the Red Deer Saints this week was tough to take, and coupled with a disappointing collapse of an outdoor classic, morale is low.

"Cam Ward has tried to spark us, Ryan Jespersen tried to spark us, and we haven't responded"  says
AGM Andrew Walker

Walker was pleased to receive an email from Red Deer Native Matt Fraser this week, and hopes a friendly wager will not only motivate him this season, but perhaps the entire team.

-------------

MATT FRASER EMAIL:

Just released from the Kootenay Ice organization of the Western Hockey League,
forward Matt Fraser and current Red Deer Jets player, Andrew Walker have
reportedly made a wager of not money, glory nor fame but....beer.

Matt Fraser joined the Kootenay Ice two years ago and since then has become a
reliable resource in a very young Ice team. At the tender, legal age of 18,
"Fraz" is quickly making a name for himself around the league. Andrew Walker
is a stable part of the Jets organization.

Making that crucial first pass and using his dynamic speed to quarterback
the powerplay are only a few of his artillery.
Key Contributors to their clubs, both boast similiar goal totals,
with Fraser having a slight adavantage at
10 and Walker knippin' at his heels with 8.

Being such good friends, they figured why not make things a little more interesting
than to have a bet of who buys the post games beers after summer skating.
You may be asking how this will be determined?

The player who has the higher goal total at the end of the regular season is deemed
champion, therefore the loser buying. Its going to be a
race right to the finish as GP's become less and less and you can bet both will be
battling it out right until the end.

In addition, Fraser says that if the Jets win their next three games, two against Slumberger
and one against the Capitalizers, he will but EVERYONE on the team a beer.

FROM SAINTS TO SINNERS
-JETS HIT ANOTHER LOW IN 9-3 SETBACK

They say necessity is the mother of invention.  If so, the Jets should probably look at signing Thomas Edison to a contract, because things went from bad to worse Wednesday night. Another tough loss for the Red Deer Jets on home ice in a 9-3 loss to the Red Deer Lighting Saints, the team's fourth in a row.

"We've definitely hit a rough patch" said rookie dman Josh Crabb...."Even when we do some good things, it seems like the bounces don't go our way."

The Jets came out of the gate hard, and opened the scoring on the game's first shift, as Garrett Zimmerman fired home a pass for his 11th of the season on a nice passing play from Whitbread and Walker.

Jets pugilist Ryan Jespersen may be forced to trade in his title for the less-ominous-sounding
"Jets energy winger" following an incident behind the Saints' net midway
through the first. Jesp

ersen was blind-sided by a high cross-check to the jaw
by the Saints' #44, who had earlier been implicated in several slew-foot and
slap shot indiscretions. "I'm going to assume he didn't like my trolley tracks
take-down of (former Jet) Jason Foui either," joked Jespersen before he hit the showers.
Earlier in the period, Jespersen caught the radio host with his head down in the
Jets' zone, sending the 6'4" 230 lb forward flying.

"To have a clean hit followed up with a cheap cross check is disappointing," said
Jespersen, "but we see it happen all the time in the NHL. So safe to say, us Jets are
used to it."Jespersen refrained from dropping his gloves in the melee that followed
the cross check, citing his need to host a major market morning broadcast within hours
of the game."Sure. It's the JOB that kept him from fighting," sighed Jets GM Joe Whitbread,
clearly disappointed at Jespersen's discretion and maturity.

The roof quickly caved in after that, as
